The importance of studying science

There’s no doubt that science plays a huge part in our everyday lives. Science is applied through various aspects, like in the technology we use, even when we’re cooking or baking.

Many students don’t have a full understanding of the benefits and importance of studying science, which may be why some are demotivated in studying science. Below we’ve listed just some of the main advantages of studying science:

  • Science can be applied to our everyday lives and can help us understand how the world around us works.
  • Studying science can improve career opportunities and keep your options open. By studying science and maths, you can open doors to further studies in engineering, ICT, finance, medicine and scientific research.
  • Studying science can help you improve a range of skills including analytical thinking, problem solving and logical reasoning.

What to look for in a science tutor

When choosing a tutor for science, there are some key points you should consider:

  • Qualifications and experience. While a tutor doesn’t particularly need qualifications or experience, they should be experienced in your chosen subject and should ideally have experience teaching for your level. For example, if you’re at GCSE level and seeking private tutoring, you should ideally hire someone who has experience in working as a GCSE science tutor.
  • Testimonials from other students. You can always ask tutors if they have any reviews or ratings from other students they’ve taught before you commit to taking private classes with them. In this way, you can see if they’ve had positive feedback and results with past students.
  • Teaching style and personal qualities. Finally, you should find a tutor who is passionate about science and who can transmit a love of the subject to you. You should feel comfortable enough with them that you can openly communicate any doubts or issues with them, and they should either have a teaching style that matches your learning style, or be able to adapt their classes according to your needs.

How a private tutor can help you in GCSE science

If you’re currently studying GCSE science and are thinking about finding a GCSE tutor, there are a number of ways in which they can help you:

  1. They can help you increase your understanding of the subject and help fill any gaps in your knowledge in biology, chemistry and physics.
  2. Science tutors can help you create a study schedule so that you can ensure you cover all topics on the curriculum before your exam.
  3. They can go over past papers with you and teach you techniques to manage your time in your GCSE exams.
