  • Learning a foreign language can improve your cognitive skills and memory.

Types of English as a foreign language lessons

There are various types of English lessons you can take according to your specific needs, some of which we have detailed below:

  • Group English lessons. Group lessons often work out slightly cheaper than private lessons so are a great idea if you’re on a budget. You can also meet new people in your English tutoring, learn from them and practise English with them.
  • Private English lessons. For those who feel like they don’t get the individualised attention they need in a busy group class, private lessons may be exactly what you’re looking for. A private tutor can cater their English lessons specifically for you.
  • Conversation classes. If you already have some knowledge of English and simply want to improve your conversational skills, conversation classes are a great option for you. These can be taken one-to-one with a private tutor or in a group.

What to look for in an English as a foreign language tutor

Once you’ve made the decision to find a private tutor for English lessons, you may be wondering what skills and qualities you should be looking for.

  • Qualifications and experience. While it’s not completely necessary for a private tutor to have professional qualifications, in some cases it’s ideal. Likewise, experience doesn’t necessarily guarantee a great tutor, but if for example you’re preparing for a specific English exam, your tutor should be experienced in teaching students for this exam and should have knowledge of the exam requirements.
  • Teaching style. Many English tutors have different styles of teaching but what’s most important is that they can adapt their teaching style to your individual learning needs. So if you learn better by doing, your tutor should have interactive lessons prepared.
  • Availability and cost. It might seem like an obvious point, but you should ensure your tutor’s availability matches yours and that their prices fall within your chosen budget.

Learning English online

You may be wondering if it’s possible for you to learn English online and the answer is absolutely! There are many tutors offering English lessons online, and often at a competitive price. You can find plenty of online tutors on the FindTutors platform by filtering your search.
