Psychology Tutor with SEN & EHCP Experience — Based near Winchester

Advert description

I offer friendly, tailored psychology lessons — either one-to-one, in small groups, or online via Zoom. I support students at all levels, whether they’re working on essays, revising key topics, or building confidence with research and writing. I bring both academic expertise and hands-on experience. I hold an MBA in Psychology (Merit), a Diploma in Positive Psychology and I’m certified by the British Psychological Society. Alongside this, I’m trained and qualified as a Learning Support/Teaching Assistant with SEN and safeguarding specialisms. I’m completing a qualification in Mental Health Awareness. This means I can support learners who may have additional needs or who find the subject overwhelming. My own psychology research was described by my university as “one of the best assignments in 25 years,” and I use that experience to help students master academic skills. Outside teaching, I’ve organised a positive psychology community group and written three published books — Buu & The Hugwaves, The Job Ad Formula and IT’S EMOTIONAL. Above all, my lessons are practical, encouraging, and tailored to the student — helping them feel calmer, more confident and ready to succeed.

I worked with James throughout my AQA Psychology A-Level, and his support made all the difference. He explained the trickier topics in a way that actually made sense and kept me motivated right up to the exams. I’m delighted to say I passed, and I know I couldn’t have done it without his help. If you’re taking AQA, James is the tutor you want in your corner.

Living with ADHD, I have frequently struggled with conventional approaches to learning. James’ SEN experience sets him apart entirely. His sessions are structured with both clarity and flexibility, designed to sustain my attention without ever feeling overwhelming. He seems really aware of the challenges neurodivergent learners face and adapts sessions to these, in my case breaking down complex theories into manageable steps or providing space for reflection when my focus wasnt great. I feel genuinely supported as a learner, rather than accommodated as a difficulty. James has transformed psychology from a source of anxiety into a subject I truly enjoy.

James helped me smash my A-Levels, and now I’m back with him for my BTEC. He explains psychology clearly, keeps the sessions structured, and — most importantly — brings a good sense of humour. Let’s be honest, some of the stats work is dull, but he makes it bearable (and even fun at times). Trust me, it helps!
