Experienced Maths tutor in the South West specialising in ASD and ADHD

Hi, I'm Luke. I'm an approachable and relatable tutor, with a teaching style that puts the needs and interests of my students first. I like to make lessons fun and enjoyable, whilst also taking the time to build relationships with each of the young people I interact with. I have been a tutor for over a decade, with extensive experience teaching GCSE maths and science to a huge variety of students with differing needs. My teaching style is relaxed. I like to work at an easy and informative pace, in order to develop a complete and thorough understanding of subjects. I make my lessons completely personalised, relating the learning to your own hobbies and interests. In our lessons we will go through topics that you are finding difficult, building accurate and interesting notes as we go, that you can later use in revision. We will combine this with past paper attempts and reviews, to give you the exam technique required to get the highest possible grade. I have a particular passion for helping those with neurodiversity. I was diagnosed with ADHD as an adult and have subsequently developed mechanisms for managing anxiety, work loads and approaches to learning that have enabled my own success in academia. These techniques are applicable to many forms of neurodiversity, and I really enjoy incorporating these tools into my teaching. I have had many students over the years with different degrees of difficulties, from severe anxiety and depression, to developmental disorders like ASD and ADHD. I hold a Level 2 TQUK certificate in Child and Adolescent Mental Health, and use this knowledge combined with my own experience to find the best educational approach for each individual. As an active and published conservation scientist I have a lot of interesting stories and knowledge to bring to the lesson. I have worked all over the world, in interesting places and with interesting animals; from gibbons in Thailand to killer whales in Iceland. This gives me the unique ability to show my students the real-world applications of your studies, which is essential in fully understanding the point and purpose of learning at GCSE. I am passionate, friendly and approachable. If you're missing that personal connection to aid your education journey, then I am the tutor for you.
