Oxford Double First, PGCE, QTS, Over 30 Years' Teaching Experience! KS3-GCSE. Top End Tuition at a Fair Price!

Advert description

Year 11 FULL. Booking for 2027. Lively, imaginative learning, step by step! I have a Double First in English Language and Literature from Oxford University. PGCE. QTS. Over 30 years' teaching experience. My creative, imaginative teaching has helped countless students: I don't just teach to the test. I boost creativity, skills and knowledge for the future, far beyond the exam hall. I teach Year 7 up to and including GCSE. I find teaching amazing because every student has their own unique way of looking at the world. My teaching works best with those who are already working hard and just need some extra help and inspiration. I am particularly good with those who like English but find school lessons a bit dull and exam-obsessed. You can get top grades and also enjoy this incredible subject! Regular usually take place at my home in Teddington, which has good transport links. Online lessons may also be booked, subject to availability. My teaching experience includes working full-time as a secondary-school English teacher and as an English tutor both in the UK and abroad. I create my own teaching materials using my drawings and cartoons to explain ideas. My visuals are clear, fun and memorable. I share these materials on the TES Resources platform. I give clear, encouraging feedback, colour-coded: green for good, red for wrong, purple for next steps! Confidence is fundamental to learning. I focus on boosting confidence with specific, honest praise. Enjoyable, rewarding work, well suited to the student's interests, makes progress come naturally. At the same time, tuition is a two-way street: if a child is not putting in the effort, tuition doesn't help. My teaching style helps those who are already trying their best but need some extra help, inspiration and fun. I know what examiners want, and I like to find creative, imaginative ways to help students provide it.

I would highly recommend Catherine as a tutor. My daughter's confidence has greatly improved since she started the lessons, she found them very engaging and she loves English literature even more! Catherine knows how to customise lessons for each student, she is very creative and patiently explains difficult concepts. She is an amazing tutor with a real passion for English literature!

Catherine is an excellent tutor and I cannot recommend her highly enough. She is thorough in her teaching and uses creative techniques to help learning- indeed my son felt that he had learnt more in one hour with Catherine than he had all year! She is passionate and enthusiastic about her subject which comes across in her teaching and this definitely engages her students!
