David is an inspiring music teacher. He is flexible about what music a student wants to learn and structures the lesson around their goals. He encourages improvisation and any student, whatever their level, can contribute to create a piece of music. His lessons are all about enjoying learning and playing music.

As you quickly realised, A is very musical and loves singing but she’s strong willed, emotional and a perfectionist so, in spite of wanting to learn to play piano to accompany herself singing, formal approaches weren’t working. Your creative, flexible lessons brought the joy back to music making. As A’s confidence increased and you bonded, you were able to challenge her to work harder and she made incredible progress on the piano and practising became pleasurable. I often arrive home after work to a house filled with music. Some of her best memories are the improvised jazz and blues collaborations that she regarded as brain breaks and rewards which were playful yet purposeful. David was a patient and supportive teacher.
