I give high quality geography lessons for all types of groups and levels.

I start with a question, not a definition. Something students can answer from their own lives. That is where I want to begin, because students who already care about a question learn the content faster than students who were handed the answer first. My teaching follows this same order every time: I find out what students already know, build the concepts around it, and then give them real work to do with those concepts. The first step matters more than it looks. I have taught in private schools in Rio de Janeiro for more than ten years, and I also taught Geography to young people and adults at a community prep course. Both settings taught me to check what students know about their own city, neighborhood or family before I introduce a single term. A concept that attaches to something familiar stays in memory. A concept delivered cold usually disappears after the test. After that, I organize units around a problem instead of a list of topics. In Global Perspectives, a unit on inequality could begin with a question the class chooses, such as who has reliable internet in our city and why. Students research, compare sources, interview people and defend a position. During this stage I ask questions, point out weak evidence and help groups that get stuck. I explain less and listen more. The same logic applies in Enterprise, where students work on entrepreneurship and financial education tasks connected to their own reality, with real constraints and real decisions.
