I found her to be very energetic and intelligent tutor. She was able to inform us about many of the different skills that jobs are looking for and how we can identify them ourselves for both what the job is asking for and how to describe ourselves in a positive light. Additionally, she informed us about how to use the job requirements to our advantage, telling us to check exactly what they are asking for and mould our CV's to both hit the requirements of the job role and show ourselves in a positive light. Along with this, told us how to identify and describe employment gaps to employers correctly. She also told us about tools such as the civil service judgement, verbal and numeracy practice tests that we can use to help improve our skills in being able to pass those tests. Shavon is very good at teaching the subject (civil service BTEC Level 1. she was able to help with where to find the jobs, and how to get help with writing up the statement on co pilot.

As a tutor, Shavon has a lovely dynamic and positive energy. Approachable, friendly but firm. That was good because we were a large class and talking whilst the tutor is talking was nipped in the bud straight away. Since there was a lot to cover, I would have liked to have received the documents emailed to us a little sooner. We didn't manage to go through them all in class. I would have liked even a loose schedule or indication of what we would be focusing on the next day since it was sometimes hard to focus on writing in class. Shavon was confident, however, and kind and we covered all the essentials for applying for a civil service job. I applied for my first job online, which was the job i was preparing for. I would never have had the confidence or the knowledge or skills to do so before the course, so thank you. Shavon made learning fun and that energised and engaged the class. We were a more positive, relaxed, disciplined and attentive class as a result.

Shavon has been amazing at boosting my confidence when I apply for jobs. She has helped me build my skills in writing an effective statement, ensuring I recognise what skills and experience the job is asking for and that I formulate my answer accordingly. She has also taught me about networking, and how to find jobs in the hidden market. Having taken this course I feel I can now apply to any job I see and that I now have the skills to help me prepare for an interview.

Shavon has been a great teacher. On the first day of the course I was very hesitant and questioning if the course was for me but throughout the course everything was explained clearly I received help when I needed it and now I feel confident in my skills in getting a job in civil service.

Shavon was an extremely engaging tutor. I really appreciated how we put everything we were learning into practical exercises; such as writing an elevator pitch, rewriting our CVs, writing statements and doing a mock interview. I wouldn't be able to apply for the DWP work coach position without that extension of our knowledge.

I had Denise Shavon as my teacher on my first week of this course and as an introduction to the course she was very welcoming, and very informative, she knows how to engage a class, I myself find it hard to concentrate in class but because Shavon was very lively and made the lessons engaging and I am very grateful for that as I felt the need to concentrate and contribute to the classes. Knowledgable teaching and informative worksheets about duties/responsibilities and mindsets. We worked through the course materials methodically learning about the issues faced by security, how they control or manage risks in the work environment and the importance of security controls to prevent incidents arising. I understand more about security issues like s.e.n.d and key issue resolution to manage current and future risks from and to people.
