Hello, I'm Owen, a qualified secondary school Geography teacher with over six years of classroom experience. I currently work as a Deputy Head of Geography and teach Geography at secondary level. My teaching approach I believe tutoring should be personalised, not one-size-fits-all. I start by finding out what the student already knows, where they are currently struggling and what they want to achieve. I then structure lessons around those areas. My lessons combine explanation, discussion, questioning and exam practice. I place particular emphasis on helping students apply geographical knowledge and write effective exam answers, rather than simply memorising facts. For exam preparation, we can work on understanding command words, using case studies effectively, developing evaluation and structuring longer answers to access the higher levels of the mark scheme.
