Former BBC Young Musician piano finalist, international concert pianist, Oxbridge graduate, and Roskell Academy tutor

Advert description

A funded PhD Candidate in Musicology - and a recent graduate of both the Royal Academy of Music (BMus First Class Honours) as well as the University of Cambridge (MPhil) - my teaching style has been described as witty, sensitive and erudite. Teaching Philosophy: I endeavour to provide lessons that nurture an innate enthusiasm for music, technical mastery of the instrument, and a healthy sense of self confidence. I tailor all my lessons to the individual needs and aspirations of each and every student; actively listening to and learning from them, thus ensuring a consistently bilateral exchange of ideas. Teaching Experience: I qualified in pedagogy with the LRAM Diploma in Piano Teaching from London's Royal Academy of Music, and have since accumulated over seven years experience as a tutor. I have received invitations to give workshops and masterclasses across in the UK and overseas, most recently in India and Hong Kong. I coach students of all ages and abilities; from young children to working adults, and from the aspiring professional musician to the casual learner. Biography: A multidisciplinary classical pianist of Nigerian-Filipino ancestry, Adam Heron is the winner of the 2020 Harriet Cohen Bach Prize. Born in Hong Kong, then adopted by his Irish mother, Adam rose to prominence following his 2018 television debut as a BBC Young Musician piano finalist. Through his unique artistry, coupled with an innate flair for communication, he strives to become a leading ambassador for classical music.

Adam is a patient and kind teacher whose approach is thorough and methodical. His experience as a performer and concert pianist casts no doubt on his own ability, and is therefore highly capable in teaching pupils from complete beginner up to a very advanced level. His experience with students young and old also means he is versatile and adjusts his teaching style to each pupils individual needs. As a colleague, Adam is organised and always prepared for every eventually, planning well ahead of what is needed. Punctuality and organisation have never been a problem. I would have no doubt in recommending Adam to any student.

Adam Heron is a very thoughtful pianist, who is both communicative and patient with his students. This was proved to me by the enthusiastic feedback from my students who took masterclasses with him in Hong Kong. His most valuable quality is that he teaches and plays with consistent love, hence I am sure that he is more than competent enough to convey his knowledge to the next generation.
