Trilingual Teacher in Mandarin, English and Spanish with over 4 years of experience in ESL Tutoring and Language Immersion

Hi there! I’m Shirley, an experienced English as a Foreign Language tutor with over four years of teaching students aged 3 to 25. I specialize in helping learners improve conversational English, master grammar and vocabulary, and prepare for exams like IELTS and TOEFL. In my lessons, I focus on your individual goals. For example: - If you’re preparing for IELTS or TOEFL, we’ll work on test strategies, practice speaking and writing under timed conditions, and perfect your grammar. - For younger learners, I use games, storytelling, and interactive activities to make lessons fun and engaging. - If you’re working on academic or professional English, we’ll tailor sessions to include formal writing skills, presentations, and cross-cultural communication. As a university student myself at the University of Edinburgh, I’m deeply familiar with the academic environment. I’ve worked extensively with international students, helping them adjust to English-speaking universities and improve their academic writing and speaking skills. Whether it’s mastering essay structure, giving presentations, or learning how to participate in seminars, I can help you navigate the demands of academic English with confidence. Having taught students from diverse cultural backgrounds in China, New Zealand, and beyond, I bring an understanding of how to make language learning practical, relatable, and enjoyable. Let’s work together to build your English skills and confidence!
