Scottish and Irish traditional guitar lessons with an experienced session musician

Advert description

My name is Paul Campbell. I offer one-to-one guitar lessons in Edinburgh and online, specialising in Celtic guitar with a particular focus on Scottish and Irish traditional music. Beginners start in standard tuning, developing secure chords, steady rhythm and good technique through music they genuinely enjoy playing. More experienced guitarists can explore traditional accompaniment, melody playing, fingerstyle arrangements, flatpicking and altered tunings such as DADGAD. Traditional accompaniment is about more than finding the right chords. It requires careful listening and an understanding of how the guitar can support a tune without crowding it. I help students develop the confidence and musical awareness needed to play sensitively with singers and melody players. I have spent around 40 years actively involved in Scotland’s traditional music scene and regularly play with fiddlers, singers and other musicians. I also hold an HNC in Applied Music. This practical experience feeds directly into my teaching. Lessons are adapted to your experience and interests. I welcome children, adult beginners, returning players and established guitarists who want to deepen their understanding of traditional music. The first lesson is free and gives us an opportunity to play together, discuss your goals and decide what you would most like to work on.
