Art Education should be viewed as an essential subject

The Artists expression is apparant in the creation, but the viewers understanding of it is vital. Each of my Art lessons is based on a significant Artist, and the school of Art established by them. In this example, Picasso will be the subject. I begin with a short bio on Picasso, show a few slides of some of his works, and have the students focus on the lines and the shapes he incorporated in the images/ how he often outlined them in black to emphasise the formation of the shape. Followed by this learning, my Eager Young Artists will be encouraged to create a piece on their learning/understanding of Cubism. This piece will first be sketched out with guidance/ prompting the Little Artists to view all parts of the image in 'shapes', as Picasso did, and then to use colors to define the shapes.
