Violin and Viola Lessons with Grade 8 Violist

Advert description

With almost 20 years studying music, I’m passionate about passing on everything I’ve learnt (and am still learning!) in my own musical journey! I aim to keep my teaching open-minded, always seeking to adapt to the student’s individual needs and goals. My focus is on guiding students towards a better sound, technique and practice habits, in a way that makes sense to them and is rewarding, both in the short and long term. We'll work on: -A solid technique both for the bowing as for the fingering -Bow control: finding a good, pleasant sound on your instrument -A good, healthy body posture which will reduce the risk of pain and tension -Aural development; training your musical ear -Reading musical notation -Understanding the musical language *Who do I teach?* All ages welcome! For younger children, I do strongly recommend in-person lessons where possible for the best experience. *Free Trial Lesson* Not sure if this is for you? Let’s try a free 30-minute lesson, where we can get to know each other and see if it’s a good fit! No commitment to continue after that. *About Me* Since starting with the violin at age 8, I’ve been through many teachers, workshops, seminars, ensembles and orchestras, as well as being surrounded by music both at home and in church. I’ve been through both informal, experimental approaches and formal classical training. These have shaped me into a well-rounded musician with strong foundations in classical technique, physical awareness and aural skills. After finishing school in Argentina, I began studying Music Teaching at IUPA, a Patagonian University, specializing in Viola. Although I didn’t finish the degree due to moving to Wales for personal reasons, my time there gave me valuable pedagogical insight and hands-on experience, including chamber music and orchestral performance. I’m now based in Llanelli, South Wales, where alongside my main job as pastoral assistant at Zion Baptist Chapel, I continue with my love for music teaching as much as I can. *Get in Touch!* Whether beginner or advanced, whether you want to work through your grades, or simply want to play for your own enjoyment, I’d love to help you along and overcome those challenges together! Lessons available in English, Welsh or Spanish Looking forward to hearing from you! Mike

I cannot recommend Mike enough! He has been an absolute joy to work with and has made a tremendous impact on my 8-year-old daughter’s musical journey so far. From the very first lesson, it was clear that Mike has a deep understanding of how to make learning the violin both fun and effective for young children. What I appreciate most is his ability to break down complex techniques into simple, age-appropriate steps. He has a knack for explaining things in a way that resonates with kids, making the learning process feel natural and enjoyable. My daughter has developed a solid foundation in posture, bowing, and finger placement, all while maintaining her enthusiasm for the instrument in just a few lesson - I would highly recommend Mike!

Mike responds:

Thank you so much for your kind comments, Rebecca! It's truly rewarding to see your daughter's enthusiasm growing alongside her skills. I'm so glad she's finding the lessons both fun and effective. She's a joy to teach, and it's been a real pleasure guiding her along. I'm looking forward to continuing our work together!

In just a few lessons with Mike so far I have found a lot of improvement! Mike is very kind in his approach and his attention to the details in technique and posture has helped me improve my vibrato and bowing to achieve a much better tone in my performance. He has been incredibly committed to help me with a very tough piece I’ve been learning as well as being flexible enough to change plans when I had something a lot simpler to prepare for a concert I was playing with an urgent deadline. If I don’t quite understand something Mike finds a way to re-explain the techniques in a way that I understand, never judging me for not quite getting it at first. My confidence has grown lots and I can’t thank him enough! Highly recommended

Mike responds:

Thank you so much, Kyle! I’m thrilled to hear how much you’ve benefited from the lessons. It’s been a real pleasure helping you, and I’m excited to keep working together and tackling more challenges ahead!!
